Forklift Truck Operator's Job Description

You will be operating a forklift with the utmost care to ensure efficiency and safety.   Your job could involve driving around warehouses, storage spaces and other facilities.  You must be a responsible individual with great experience in driving industrial vehicles.  The goal will be to ensure that boats and products will always be at the right place and handled carefully, to achieve maximum customer service expectations.


Forklift Truck Operator's Responsibilities

  • Move customer's boats in and out of their storage locations to designated wet slips and/or mechanic/cleaning bays
  • Unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and stack them to assigned places
  • Locate and move stock of products to pallets or crates for storage or shipment
  • Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies
  • Inspect machinery to determine the need for repairs and guarantee safety by performing regular maintenance
  • Keep updated records of inventory and daily activity logs
  • Comply with company policies 
  • Help maintain a safe and orderly environment of the facilities


Forklift Truck Operator's Required Skills​

  • Proven experience as forklift operator
  • Attention to detail and familiarity with industrial equipment
  • Excellent physical condition and coordination
  • Valid certification to operate forklifts
  • High school diploma


Forklift Truck Operator's Working Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.  The work can be moderately dirty with varying temperatures throughout the seasons. Outdoor work is expected.  Work on the water and docks is also expected.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move varying amounts of weight (up to 50 lbs. or more), depending on the task at hand.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to kneel, bend at the waist, and work in a sitting/standing position for a period of time.  Must be able to climb stairs.  Simultaneous and often repetitive use of hands, wrists, fingers, legs, and feet are required.

Marine Mechanic's Responsibilities

  • Provide own tools and storage for tools. 
  • Work independently at the shop, off-site, or at other marinas, during all seasons, and on all mechanical and electrical systems associated with boats and other aquatic vessels for our clients.
  • Perform mechanical and safety inspections of vessels. 
  • Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes and winterizations
  • Gas engine diagnostics and repair, engine drive diagnostics and repair, plumbing, sanitation systems, fuel systems, and electrical systems.
  • Document all inspection and repair jobs, test the results of work performed.
  • Aid with installing new systems, upgrading existing systems, conducting operational tests, and suggesting modifications.
  • Accept tasks from the Service Manager while planning and implementing the execution strategy.
  • Interact with individuals to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining the highest levels of performance and productivity
  • Continuously expand knowledge of engines, electronics, and boat operations.
  • Maintain an advanced skill set in at least one area of the service department: Inboard gas engines, I/O gas engines, Outboard engines, or marine diagnostics.​


 Marine Mechanic's Required Skills​

Bonus Qualifications for Marine Mechanic:

  • 1+ years of experience in a technical repair position.
  • Over 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Marine Repair Certification/Training from an accredited institution is encouraged.
  • Ability, or learning motivation, to operate on different boats, with a wide range of years and models.​

Torch River Marine is located at the South end of Torch Lake with over 100 wet slips, 400 rack store slips, 19 rental boats, and 3 full service mechanical bays.  We are currently seeking an experienced marine mechanic, a service manager, a forklift truck operator, and one or two marine mechanic interns.  We are a seasonal employer from mid April through mid November, with layoffs during the winter.  All employees are expected to work 8+ hour days, weekends, and holidays.  Hourly or salary wages are negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Service Manager's Responsibilities

  • Provide daily supervision and direction to associates in the Service Department.
  • Schedule and assign all service and warranty work orders; ensure work orders are completed to the customer’s satisfaction, on a timely basis.
  • Maintain and constantly strive to increase associate productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and secure work environment.
  • Support a strong commitment to excellent customer service and ensure a pleasant and productive shopping experience for all customers.
  • Promote positive customer relations and a productive team-oriented work environment.
  • Manage and ensure accuracy of the units and parts in inventory.
  • Ensure warranty claims are created, submitted for payments to be received in a timely manner.
  • Ensure products are properly detailed and unit deliveries are conducted in a friendly and professional manner, as scheduled.


Service Manager's Required Skills​
